BEE WAX

WHERE DOES THE WAX COME FROM?
Beeswax is produced by the secretion of the ceriferous glands, by bees in the hive that are between 10 and 18 days old, they extract it from the rings of their abdomen in the form of small scales.
The bees work these wax flakes with the help of their legs and with the mouth they shape it until reaching the ideal consistency to be able to build their totally perfect hexagonal cells and form the honeycomb where they will breed and where they will store honey and dust. len.

TYPES OF WAX
The wax we offer at Delícia de Mel is the Pure Wax of Opercle. Light-colored Opercle Wax is made by bees to seal their honey-filled cells. It is the wax that we uncover to leave the honeycomb open and to extract the honey.
When the honeycombs have a certain amount of time and therefore the wax has darkened considerably, we replace this wax with sheets of stamped wax, the bees stretch it again and turn it into new honeycombs. We melt the used honeycombs and obtain blocks of wax which we exchange for new sheets of wax.

UTILITIES
Thanks to its moisturizing properties, beeswax is widely used in the manufacture of natural cosmetics such as creams, face masks, soaps, etc.
It is also used to make aromatic and relaxing decorative natural candles and all kinds of crafts.
Other uses given to wax are waxing, which protects and nourishes wooden surfaces, and is also useful for making protective treatments for antique, rustic or solid wood furniture.
